WHAT DOES GREEN MEAN?
March 8, 2008
Everyday now it seems more and more folks want to tell you that what they have to sell is green.
Some of it’s right on – some’s not. Unfortunately, a whole lot of what you hear is more market hype than market wise. I won’t assume to tell you I have a pat answer, even about wood flooring, a subject I know a good deal about. What I can say is that wood flooring is by far and away the most environmentally sensible and sustainable floor covering you can possibly get. Sustained harvesting of mature hardwood trees (as has been the practice in North America for well over 100 years), helps maintain and even improves the health and environment of our forests and our ecosystem. No other floor covering can come close to boasting that – even reclaimed products.
That said, I am a firm believer in reusing our resources. Recycling is not a new term. When I was a pup, we called it survival. Nothing was taken for granted. Nothing was procured unless there was a plan in place for its complete use, to include its disposal – one that would perpetuate the rebirth or improved health of another needed resource.
I’ve been called an old growth hippy by some. It’s a description I can’t deny. Still, the law of economy is a universal one. All beings in all realms of existence must sooner or later come to terms with its exacting message.
